At an event at the White House on August 22, U.S. President Donald Trump presented the press with a photo showing him and Russian President Vladimir Putin standing on the podium at the Elmendorf-Richardson Joint Base in Alaska, before the two leaders attended the summit on August 15.

At an event at the White House on August 22, U.S. President Donald Trump presented the press with the photo showing him and Russian President Vladimir Putin standing on the podium at the Elmendorf-Richardson Joint Base in Alaska, before the two leaders attended the summit on August 15.
“I just received this photo from someone who also very much wanted to be there. He respects me and our country, just not the same with others,” Trump said while holding up the photo, adding that he would autograph it.
The U.S. president called it a “beautiful photo” of the Russian counterpart. “I look okay in it, but he looks great. It’s wonderful that the photo was sent to me,” he added.
Trump is pushing peace efforts to end the conflict in Ukraine. After meeting Putin in Alaska, he also met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and several European leaders at the White House.
Following the discussions, Trump announced he is arranging a meeting between Putin and Zelensky. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt later said Putin had promised to meet the Ukrainian leader in the coming weeks. However, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on August 22 that no plans for the meeting have been made yet.
