With fewer than 40 days until the November election, former President Donald Trump is intensifying his personal attacks on Vice President Kamala Harris, demanding her impeachment and prosecution.
During a rally in Erie, Pennsylvania, on Sunday, Trump claimed Harris should be disqualified from running for president and suggested she resign and return to California. He criticized the Biden-Harris administration’s immigration policies, asserting, “She should be impeached and prosecuted for her actions.”
Trump has a history of threatening legal action against political opponents, including President Joe Biden and Hillary Clinton. As he navigates his own legal challenges, he is now attempting to hold Harris accountable for issues related to undocumented immigration, blaming her for deaths attributed to undocumented immigrants.
Harris visited the U.S.-Mexico border last Friday for the first time in over three years, advocating for enhanced security measures and criticizing Trump for undermining a bipartisan immigration bill earlier this year.
As immigration remains a key concern for voters—70% consider it an important issue according to a recent ABC News/Ipsos poll—Trump leads Harris by 10 points among those who believe he is better equipped to handle it. Despite advice from Republican allies to focus on policy issues, Trump’s rhetoric has become increasingly extreme, recently labeling Harris as “mentally disabled.”
Majority Whip Tom Emmer, who is assisting in preparations for the vice presidential debate, refrained from condemning Trump’s remarks but noted that the focus should remain on the issues.
