North Carolina Republican Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson suffered second-degree burns after accidentally touching a hot exhaust pipe while attending the Mayberry Truck Show in Mount Airy. During a campaign event, Robinson explained that he was trying to avoid supporters as he exited a “big rig” when the incident occurred. He was treated at Northern Regional Hospital and reported that he is doing fine, despite the injury.
Robinson is currently running for governor against Democratic nominee Josh Stein, with the race gaining attention amid recent controversies surrounding Robinson’s past comments. Following a CNN report alleging inflammatory remarks he made years ago, several staff members have resigned from his campaign. Robinson has denied writing the controversial messages and is seeking an investigation into the matter.
