**Happy 100th Birthday, Mr. President!**
Former President Jimmy Carter celebrates his centennial today, making history as the longest-living U.S. president. Born on October 1, 1924, in Plains, Georgia, he became the 39th president in 1976, navigating significant challenges like energy crises, the Cold War, and the Iran hostage crisis.
Despite a tumultuous term, Carter achieved notable successes, including the Camp David Accords, which established peace between Israel and Egypt. His presidency was marked by economic difficulties, famously termed “stagflation,” and crises like the Iranian hostage situation and the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan.
After leaving office, Carter dedicated himself to humanitarian work, notably with Habitat for Humanity and the Carter Presidential Center, promoting human rights. He was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002 for his ongoing efforts to foster peace and democracy.
Carter has written 32 books, with his most recent, “Faith: A Journey for All,” published in 2018. Currently under hospice care, he continues to inspire many through his lifelong commitment to service. At 100, Carter’s legacy as a compassionate leader remains impactful.
