The Seattle Seahawks faced their first defeat of the season, losing 42-29 to the Detroit Lions, who were powered by an outstanding performance from quarterback Jared Goff. Goff made history by completing all 18 of his pass attempts, achieving the NFL record for the most completions in a game without an incompletion, along with throwing two touchdown passes and scoring his first career receiving touchdown.
“I wasn’t sure [of the record during the game],” Goff said after the match. “I was trying to remember if I had any incomplete passes. I couldn’t quite tell, but I knew I had a chance.”
With the win, both the Lions and Seahawks now hold a 3-1 record for the season. The Lions took control early, leading 21-7 at halftime thanks to two touchdowns from Jahmyr Gibbs and one from David Montgomery. Although the Seahawks, led by Geno Smith, who threw for a career-high 395 yards, mounted a comeback, they couldn’t close the gap. Smith completed 38 of 56 passes, recording one touchdown and one interception.
In the second half, Goff extended the lead with a 70-yard touchdown pass to Jameson Williams, making it 35-20. Although Kenneth Walker III answered with a touchdown run to bring the Seahawks closer, Goff sealed the victory by connecting with Amon-Ra St. Brown in the end zone. Earlier in the game, St. Brown had also thrown a touchdown pass to Goff in a trick play.
The Lions currently sit second in the NFC North, trailing the undefeated Minnesota Vikings, while the Seahawks remain atop the NFC West. In a separate matchup, the Tennessee Titans secured their first win of the season, defeating the Miami Dolphins 31-12. Nick Folk contributed with five field goals, and both Tony Pollard and Tyjae Spears rushed for touchdowns. The Dolphins, now at 1-3, are struggling in the AFC East, while the Titans sit third in the AFC South ahead of the winless Jacksonville Jaguars.
