Perry, the lovable lurcher, recently marked his fourth birthday with a heartwarming garden party at the rescue center.
His journey has been quite a unique one, as he’s been under the care of Battersea’s Old Windsor center for over 18 months, which is nearly 600 days—more than 15 times the average stay for dogs at the center, which is just 35 days.
To make his birthday special and lift his spirits, the dedicated staff at the center threw him a fantastic party filled with gifts, toys, and balloons. However, Perry’s one birthday wish is to find a forever home of his own.
Staff members believe that Perry’s extended stay is because he tends to get overly excited around people. Nevertheless, he’s made great progress since being in a foster home and has proven to be an affectionate and playful pet. Perry adores spending time with his favorite people and cherishes gentle fuss and ear scratches.
Despite his long wait, Perry remains cheerful, brightening everyone’s day with his playful antics and sweet nature. Rosie Beauvais, Battersea Rehoming and Welfare Assistant, and Perry’s foster carer, shared, ‘Perry is an absolute delight to be around, and he never fails to make me smile with his goofy personality. He’s such a playful boy who loves spending his time playing games with his never-ending collection of toys. Once he’s worn himself out from a day of fun and games, he’ll happily take himself away for a snooze in his favorite comfy spot.’
Perry also loves the outdoors and enjoys spending most of his time in the garden, where he zooms around at full speed during his daily playtime. Rosie added, ‘He is such a character and will make a wonderful addition to the right family.’
Despite lurchers typically leaning towards a more relaxed lifestyle, Perry is an active dog who likes to stretch his legs. He dreams of finding a family with an active lifestyle and experience with sighthounds who can help him burn off his energy with exciting walks and playtime.”
